Ultima 4 Remake News - Elenkis - 5:12:30 PM EST
The Ultima 4: Dawn of Virture site has a new progress update. As it is now reaching the stage that you can walk around and interact with the game world the guys have added a development diary to the site to detail the work accomplished so far. Here's a peek:
The game engine is complete enough that I am able to test it through the same interface you will see when playing. The latest test included creating a test region (Britain) and setting animated creatures (reapers) loose in it to walk around. The game interface is starting to work really well; the sight of the reapers wandering near the buildings was already very much like the finished game will look, with complete character panels, etc. I hope to get some pictures ready for you to see soon.
Sounds like they're making great progress!

Arx Element of the Week 12 - Elenkis - 5:03:35 PM EST
In collaboration with Fishtank, this weeks Arx Element over on RPGDot is the Sisters of Edurneum Outpost, home of the powerful Snakewomen sorcerers.
In this place you’ll find a library, a magic shop and the throne chamber, where the mother superior is located. The entrance to the convent is magically sealed and guarded, so entering this place isn’t an easy task for uninvited strangers. The outpost serves also as some kind of barrier between the territory of the dangerous ratmen and the other races of Arx.

Arx Fatalis Voiceover by Steve Russell - Dan - 2:47:15 PM EST
You guys are gonna love this (especially you taffer ladies out there ;). We have two new Arx Fatalis files, mp3s, straight from Fishtank and Arkane. They're both from the Arx introduction. One is a short music track, and the other is a voiceover by Steve Russell, mostly known for his voice work in Thief 1, 2, and Shock 2, as Garrett, Karras, William Diego, and many, many other characters.

  • Arx Fatalis Intro Voiceover Clip, by Steve Russell

The voiceover also, of course, lays the stage for the world of Arx Fatalis. Enjoy! :)

  •     Arx Element of the Week 11 - Elenkis - 10:54:35 AM EST
The 11th Arx Element is up over on RPGDot. This week the focus shifts from spells to the Yellow Tulip tavern.
Besides buying drinks and trying to get drunk, it’s highly possible that you’ll also meet some interesting people there. Maybe some of these fellas will provide you with valuable information. If you are not in the mood for a conversation or drinking then you can try to gamble and win (or loose) some money instead. The rules for this game are quite simple and maybe you are a lucky enough to win the money for your next drink or meal.
There are also 5 nice screenshots of the tavern's interior. Thanks guys!

Arx Element of the Week 10 - Elenkis - 12:28:52 PM EST
We're back, apologies for the server screw up and downtime! And we're just in time for the latest Arx Element over on RPGDot. This weeks element is the Harm spell and as usual is accompanied by a series of screenshots.
The Harm spell is an excellent way to get rid of an enemy who approaches you. It’s also extremely useful as protection against attacks at close range. When you cast this spell, some kind of magical barrier will surround you. Everyone who gets in touch with it, will get hurt permanently until he steps back, flees or dies. Even bigger opponents like this poor Troll seen on the screenshots can’t resist the power of this spell.

Arx Element of the Week 9 - Elenkis - 6:22:33 PM EST
RPGDot examine the Fireball spell in part 9 of their weekly Arx element in collaboration with Fishtank!
Yes, the classic Fireball-spell will be also available in Arx Fatalis. No magical education is complete without learning this spell. Like Magic Missile, this offensive spell is perfect to attack enemies from a distance, but is causing much more damage to the target. The more experience you gain during the game, the more powerful this spell becomes. The Fireball is a bit more difficult to cast than Magic Missile and it also needs more magical energy but you surely don't want to miss this spell when facing stronger enemies.
As always the feature is accompanied by a series of screenshots demonstrating the spell in action.

New Arx Preview - Elenkis - 10:36:10 PM EST
Fragland have also done a small preview of Arx. There is nothing new contained in it, but it is positive none the less.
The gameplay will be non-linear and should give you up to 50 hours of playtime where you're supposed to be viewing beautifully animated cut-scenes and have an astoundingly deep atmosphere.

        Arx in Pre-Beta - Elenkis - 11:57:27 AM EST
Fragland have received a general update from Fishtank on the status of games in development. The brief mention of Arx is short but sweet:
Arx Fatalis: A playable pre-beta version including the English speech files from the makers of the Looking Glass hits Thief and System Shock 2 has arrived at the Fishtank offices.
Thanks to Saam for the heads up!
